Introduction
The Dream Space is a personalized home office designed for a professional architect with a passion for Art Deco design and a deep appreciation for immersive, atmospheric spaces. The client envisioned a moody, sophisticated environment that could double as both a functional workspace and a personal retreat. The office needed to include a large, custom-built desk with an integrated screen for virtual client meetings, ample storage, and a hidden door leading to a secluded area for quiet study or creative recharge. Natural light and a visual connection to the outdoors were also key priorities, with a request for large windows framed by interior foliage to bring nature into the space.
During the Programming phase, the project goals were clarified: create a moody, stylish Art Deco aesthetic, integrate high-performance work tools seamlessly, and include elements of privacy and discovery. In the Schematic Design and Design Development phases, solutions emerged to meet these needs. The layout was organized around the custom desk as a central focal point, with built-in cabinetry and lighting to support the Art Deco theme. A hidden door was cleverly disguised in the millwork, leading to a cozy, acoustically insulated reading nook. Floor-to-ceiling windows with strategically placed indoor plants blur the line between interior and exterior, fulfilling the client’s desire for connection to nature while maintaining the office’s dramatic ambiance.
